Hope everyone is staying safe and at home during these troublesome times during the Covid-19 outbreak. With more people staying home than ever, tension at home has been on the rise. People are getting restless, and aggravated due to being confined into their homes. An unfortunate result of this is that domestic violence has been on the rise. According to ABC News “So far there has been only a slight uptick in domestic violence calls to police, according to Steven Casstevens, president of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, but he said he’s preparing for things to get worse.”
As time pass, and we stay in our homes longer, more families will find it difficult to cope with each other. A lot of people have been laid off. With financial stress on the rise across the country, more people are going to argue over petty things. Not that they want to or intend to but the only person that is next to them tends to be their spouse. It is an unfortunate situation. NBC News said that the financial stress alone creates a ticking time bomb.
People how are already in an abusive relationship are even in worst situation. Now, there is no where to go due to the quarantine. This makes it harder for the abused individual to just leave the house during times of heated arguments. With a lot of shelters and self help places being closed, this can make it extremely difficult for the abused person to want to leave. Feeling trapped so they just stay home getting abused.
A lot of people are turning to drugs and alcohol during the Covid-19 outbreak to pass time and to deal with the stress of staying home. This increases abusive behavior in people. Many couples in Orange County, California, have turned to couples rehabs and treatment to deal with drugs and alcohol.

I’ve been a criminal defense attorney for over a decade, and have defended those accused of committing a crime. I was never a former prosecutor who use to put people in jail. All I have ever done is criminal defense. Why? Because good people make mistakes. And during the Covid-19 pandemic, many of us are making mistakes, not because we are bad people but being cooped up at home can be more stressful than being out working.
