Jimmy Cha is a criminal defense / DUI lawyer Fullerton.
Today is April 1, 2020. Most people are staying home during the Covid-19 outbreak. I, Jimmy Cha, have been working relentlessly during this time to ensure that my clients and prospective clients have someone to speak with during this time where many attorneys have taken the time off they deservedly need.
You would think with the rise of the Covid-19 pandemic, and the stay home order by our governor there would be no more DUI arrests. This is not the case. Yes, the amount of DUI arrests have gone down significantly. At the same time, people are still going out to friend’s or relative homes to drink, and then drive home. As a result, people are still being arrested for DUI’s in Fullerton, and all over surrounding cities.
Many lawyers not answering their phones, and many people arrested for a DUI do not know what to do. Then there’s the court closure issue where many people might have court on a day court is closed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Don’t try to figure all this out on your own. There is a good chance you wont find all these answers, as there are a lot of confusing information on the web. Friend’s aren’t much help either, as they are not criminal defense lawyers who go to court every day.
First, if you are arrested for a DUI in Fullerton or surrounding counties like Los Angeles, Riverside, San Bernardino, and San Diego, you should know that you have 10 days to contact the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) to schedule an Administrative Per Se (APS) hearing. This is to ensure your drivers license does NOT get suspended unilaterally without having a hearing. I always advise my clients to have the attorney who is representing you, not any attorney but the one representing you to schedule the hearing as there are documents to request at the time of scheduling the hearing. I’ve heard many clients in the past tell me that hearing officers at the DMV will try to dissuade them from scheduling the hearing or give them wrong information. To prevent this, have your attorney, whether it is me or someone else schedule the hearing to ensure your rights will be protected.
With that being said, feel free to contact me. I will be more than happy to discuss your matter with you. Give you pertinent information pertaining to your DUI whether it is your 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc. If you were involved in an accident or not, it is always a good idea to speak to an attorney so you know what you need to prepare and do before court, and what to expect. If your loved one is in jail because of a DUI arrest, you need to know what to do. Can I bail him/her out? Should I leave them in there? What are my options? These are many questions people ask me all the time. Call me, I’ll be more than happy to speak to you for FREE. It is your right to know the law and what you need to do to protect yourself and your loved ones. It shouldn’t cost money to know these things. Call me so I can go over your rights and options.

We are in some troublesome times. The market is changing significantly on how meetings are conducted and done. Many of us have questions on how the Covid-19 virus is going to affect our lives. There is a lot of uncertainty in the air. Your legal rights shouldn’t be one of them.
I travel to and am familiar with most Southern California courts. I’m usually in a few different courts a day. This makes me very familiar with the courts in different areas. Unlike a lot of attorneys who practice different areas of law, I only practice criminal defense. A DUI is considered criminal. I’ve been defending people accused of crimes for over a decade. I have never put anyone in jail. Not a former prosecutor. Thus, i never had the mind frame that people belonged in jail. Rather, I know that good people make mistakes from time to time. This doesn’t mean they belong in jail. I’m not here to judge you. That is not my job. My job is to ensure that your Constitutional rights are being upheld, and to provide the best defense and solution possible to your matter.
